THE IMPORTANCE OF FATHERS

A. Today, Is A Day Set Aside To Honor Fathers.

1. The first commandment given with a promise.

a. That we might live long (Exodus 20: 12).
b. That we might be well (Deuteronomy 5: 16).

2. It is a commandment.

C. How Important Are Fathers?

Body: Ephesians 6: 1 - 3

I. The Need For Instruction.

A. What would happen if schools had no teachers?

B. Proverbs 4: 1 - 4.

1. Fathers are to pass on understanding and good doctrine.
2. Learning from others experiences gives life.

II. The Need To Know God.

A. Psalms 78: 1 - 4.

1. We need to pass on the praises of God.
2. All need to know what God has done.

B. Judges 2: 10

1. An example of not teaching the knowledge of God.
2. We are one generation from apostasy.

III. The Need For Correction.

A. Proverbs 3: 11, 12.

1. The Lord corrects and so should fathers.
2. Correction is based upon love and "delight."

B. Hebrews 12: 6 - 11.

1. Chastening is motivated out of love.
2. It is a necessary part of the development of righteousness.

IV. The Need For Godly Training [Ephesians 6: 4].

A. Brought up in training of the Lord.

B. Brought up in the admonition of the Lord.

Conclusion:

A. There Are Many Reasons Fathers Are Important.

1. To teach children to grow up in the Lord.

2. To take their God given role in the family.

3. To assume their responsibility.
