FEARFUL EXPECTATION

Introduction:

A. A Choice To Make.

1. To lose friends and family because they think you are a religious fanatic. (Even Jesus was thought crazy! Mark 3: 21)

2. To fall into God’s hands because of unfaithfulness.

B. Which Would Be Worse?

Body: Hebrews 10: 26 - 31

I. Willful Sin.

A. After receiving knowledge of the truth.

1. Know good and not do it (James 4: 17).
2. Forsake the assembly (v. 25).

B. No longer a sacrifice for our sins.

1. Christ’s sacrifice is no longer of effect.
2. There is no other sacrifice to turn to.

II. Worse Punishment.

A. Under Moses’ Law.

1. Person would reject the law.
2. Two or three witnesses would be called.
3. The person was to be put to death.

B. Under New Covenant.

1. The person rejects Christ.
2. Two or three witnesses are called.
a. The Son of God - trampled upon.
b. The Blood of Christ - treated as worthless.
c. The Holy Spirit - insulted.
3. The person is subject to eternal death.

III. God’s Judgment.

A. God does repay the evil.

1. A fearful expectation of judgment.
2. Fiery indignation.
3. Adversaries devoured.

B. Nothing more fearful than being under God’s wrath.

A. What Do You Have To Look Forward To?

1. The gentle loving caress of your heavenly father?

2. The vengeful, wrathful judgment of God Almighty?

B. What Will You Eternity Be?
