A THIRD TIME

Introduction:

A. We Like To Ridicule The Disciples.

1. We would never be like them.

2. We would have listened, understood and believed.

3. We would have stayed by Jesus side to the end.

B. But Would We Really Have Walked Our Talk?

Body: Luke 18: 31 - 34

I. Jesus Teaches The Disciples.

A. Takes the twelve aside.

B. Teaches them privately.

II. The Passion Description.

A. A fulfillment of prophecy.

1. They are going to Jerusalem.
2. The prophets have written concerning this time.
3. Son of Man will accomplish prophecies.

B. Terrible Treatment.

1. Will be delivered to the Gentiles.
2. Will be taunted, teased, insulted, spit upon.
3. Will be beaten half to death.
4. Will be killed.
5. Will rise the third day.

III. The Disciples Blindness.

A. A blind spot in understanding

1. Did not understand.
2. It was hidden from them.
3. They did not know.

B. Why?

1. They did not know who the Son of Man was?
2. They were too excited by the festivities at Jerusalem?
3. Like children, they did not hear what was said?
4. Did not want to hear what Jesus was saying?

Conclusion:

A. Give Them Credit.

1. They did not give up.

2. They continued to remain faithful in spite of their weakness.

B. Pray That We Might Be like Them.

1. Walking with Jesus everyday.

2. Faithful until death.
