Body: Luke 24: 44 - 53

I. It Was Necessary.

A. Suffering and resurrection.

1. It was foretold in the Old Testament.

2. Jesus had to fulfill God’s revealed will.

B. A message to preach to all nations..

1. Repentance in His name.

a. Turning back from ungodliness.

b. Admitting Jesus is the reason.

2. Remission of sins in His name.

a. Our greatest handicap has been removed.

b. We have been cured of a terrible disease.

C. Witnesses.

1. Of His life and works of ministry.

2. Of His death, burial, and resurrection.

II. The Ascension.

A. A walk to Bethany.

1. The town itself was two miles from Jerusalem.

2. He lifted up His hands and blessed them.

B. Jesus goes to heaven.

1. While He is blessing them.

2. He is parted (reminiscent of Elijah and Elisha) from them.

3. He is carried to heaven.

C. The disciples lives' change.

1. They worship Him and return to Jerusalem.

2. They are filled with joy (not grief at His loss?).

3. They are constantly "at church."

Conclusion:

A. Are We Witnesses?

1. Of Who Jesus is.

2. Of What Jesus did.

3. Of His promises to come.

B. Are We Fulfilling Our Work Of Preaching To All Nations?
