FORGIVEN LOVE

Introduction:

A. Pay Attention To The Words Of The Word.

1. Often, false teaching is based upon false understanding.

2. At times, Jesus will say something a little differently and give a whole new meaning.

B. Forgiveness Leads To Love Or Love Leads To Forgiveness?

Body: Luke 7: 36 - 50

I. A Dinner Party.

A. Pharisee by the name of Simon.

1. Asks Jesus to come to eat.
2. Was he trying to appear good to the people?
3. Was he trying to test Jesus?

B. A Woman of No Name.

1. Known to be "trash."
2. Hears of Jesus being in town.
3. Brings a costly, fragrant oil.

II. Different Viewpoints.

A. The "High and Mighty."

1. She is not worthy of being allowed to touch - yuck!
2. She is an "untouchable."
3. Jesus is no prophet - doesn't even know her nature.
(How did she get into his house!!!)
4. In the midst of condemning, acknowledges Jesus as teacher!?

B. The Loving Savior.

1. Is not judgmental of past wrongs.
2. Sees current actions of love and faith.
3. She has shown great humility and care for Jesus.

III. A Lesson Of Understanding.

A. The greater the understanding of being a sinner, the greater one appreciates being forgiven.

B. One forgiven much loves much.

C. Her much love earned her forgiveness (not forgiveness lead to love).

D. Her faith lead her to act in such a manner.

Conclusion:

A. How Do We Look Upon "The Untouchables?"

B. Are We Compassionate Or Pompous?

C. Have We Been Forgiven Much Or Little?
