LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD

Introduction:

A. What Does It Mean To Love God?

1. To be madly passionate about Him?

2. To be weak-kneed and giggly?

3. To be star struck and dumb-founded?

B. What Does God Say It Means To Love Him?

Body:    Deuteronomy 6: 4 - 8

I. Four Great Commandments (Exodus 20: 2 - 11).

A. He is the One Who blesses us (v. 2).

B. He is the Righteous Judge (vs. 5, 6).

C. He is to be highly respected (v. 7).

D. He is the One to imitate (v. 11).

II. A Change of Heart.

A. Our desire (affection) is to be for Him (Col. 3: 2, KJV).

B. We must treasure Him (Matthew 6: 19 - 21).

C. Hidden Treasure & Great Pearl (Matthew 13: 44, 45)

If the kingdom is great, how much greater is the owner?

III. A Change of Life.

A. He gives your life direction (Philippians 3: 13, 14).

B. He gives your life purpose (Ecclesiastes 12: 13, 14).

C. He gives you life (Acts 17: 28a).

IV. A Change of Action.

A. We now endeavor to obey Him (1 John 5: 1 - 3).

B. We now endeavor to please Him (1 Thessalonians 4: 1; Hebrews 11: 6).

C. We now endeavor to convince others (Matthew 28: 18 - 20).

Conclusion:

A. Do You Love God?

1. Do His commandments delight you?

2. Have you had a change of heart?

3. Has your life changed?

4. Are you working for Him?

B. Loving Him requires following Him (i.e. Jesus).
